First edition. First U. S. edition. Cloth lightly worn at spine ends, else a near fine, bright copy in dust jacket with light professional restoration to the spine ends and corners, and a small repair to top edge of rear panel. An acrobat is beheaded while swinging from a trapeze in full view of a crowded theater. This bloody beginning is followed by more murders, all seemingly without a motive, until Mrs. Pym arrives upon the scene.
