Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Understanding Jack Kerouac" by Matt Theado was issued in the excellent "Understanding Contemporary American Literature" series published by the University of South Carolina in 2001. This is the second printing hardcover. The hardcover is now Out of Print (OP). The series is, by the way, edited by Matthew J. Bruccoli. This particular copy has a remainder mark on the bottom text-block edge. ******************************************* From the jacket blurb : "UNDERSTANDING JACK KEROUAC introduces a new generation of readers to what Matt Theado calls Kerouac's 'unwieldy accretion of published work . Fiction, poetry, nonfiction, selected letters, religious writing, and 'true story novels.' Presenting this cultural icon of the Beat Generation primarily as a writer than as a social rebel or media celebrity, Theado elucidates the reasons Kerouac's reputation has outlived disparaging beatnik associations and why his recently published works have attracted an expanded readership." Theado takes a book-by-book approach to the sometimes confusing canon and develops a framework for understanding Kerouac's thematic concerns, writing techniques, and artistic evolution." ***************************************** SERIES : Understanding Contemporary American Literature / SERIES EDITOR : Matthew J. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. No Jacket. We list the 1957 date stated to copyright page -- the only date found -- because the ABE computers request a date. However, this is a LATER, FACSIMILE, REPLICA REPRINT, vintage unknown. An Online seller peddled this to us as a "Viking Press 1957" edition, which of course it is not, despite what we find printed to the title page. (Caveat emptor out there -- most of them don't even care.) The boards of the 1957 Vikings were covered in black cloth; this thing has black PAPER-covered boards. True 1957 Viking printings bore a red topstain; this thing shows NO topstain. Nor are we sure who printed this volume -- we can't find the logo of the First Edition Library, or of any other known purveyor of acknowledged facsimiles. That said, we offer here a lovely, "fine" facsimile reproduction of the 1957 Viking first printing of "On the Road," with NO dust jacket. Given that true firsts can now run $2,000 to $5,000 or more, this kind of handsome facsimile does have some value -- we just think whoever printed this one should have acknowledged who they were and what they were up to. 310 pp. Reduced from $120.

Condition: new. Traduzione di Caramella M., Legati I. e Vallorani N. Segrate, 2019; ril., pp. 720, ill. (Oscar Draghi). «Jack Kerouac, l'Omero americano, fornì alla sua generazione un nuovo Ulisse, più cool, più beat e senza Itaca. 'On the road' divenne il Viaggio, il moto a luogo del mondo. Guai a stare fermi, bisognava fare l'autostop, salire sui treni, accomodarsi in corriera sui Greyhound, cavalcare vecchie auto come la 37FordSedan.

Hardback. Condition: Fine. Reprint. 2013 Reprint. Fine Hardback. No inscriptions or bookplates. Fine slipcase. Bound in cloth, printed and blocked with a photograph of Jack Kerouac. Set in New Caledonia with Tooting Sans display. Approx. 288 pages; frontispiece and 12 pages of black & white plates. Book Size: 9½" × 6¼". When Jack Kerouac's On the Road first appeared in 1957, readers instantly felt the beat of a new literary rhythm. A fictionalised account of his own journeys across America with his friend Neal Cassady, Kerouac's beatnik odyssey captured the soul of a generation and changed the landscape of American fiction for ever. With its smoky, jazz-filled atmosphere and its restless, yearning spirit of adventure, On the Road left its mark on the culture of the late 20th century, influencing countless books, films and songs. Kerouac's prose is remarkable both for its colloquial swing and for the pure lyricism inspired by the American landscape 'the backroads, the black-tar roads that curve among the mournful rivers like Susquehanna, Monongahela, old Potomac and Monocacy'. This Folio Society edition is illustrated with evocative photographs of Kerouac and the landscapes of 1950s America. Now acknowledged as a modern classic, On the Road remains a thrilling and poignant story of the road less travelled.
