Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 1st printing of the first American hardcover edition. LAID-IN is the late author's signature cut from the preliminary page of another book that was not in collector's condition. The slip of paper is 3 x 5 inches, and the author signed it with a blue ballpoint pen. Bound in full black cloth with gilt stamped titles, white endpapers and publisher's brown top-stain. The book is tight and sits squarely with sharp corners. Mild tanning to the exposed page edges. No markings by a previous owner or retailer. The jacket is bright, crisp, price intact (7.95) and includes 6/74 printed on the back flap. Wear to the heel of the jacket's spine. A soft, horizontal crease runs halfway along the bottom edge of the front panel with lifting of the surface laminate. There are several small abrasions in the surface of the front panel, along the fore-edge and one at the edge of the spine, that have penetrated the laminate. Unobtrusive stain along the extreme top edge of the back panel that is mostly apparent on the reverse side. Shelf wear to the surface of the front cover is visible when held to the light. Tanning to the edges of the white flaps. That said the jacket presents well in a mylar sleeve. Also available from this bookseller is a signed Canadian first printing of The Russia House. Canadian orders will be charged GST. Signed by Author(s).

Signed limited first edition of the author's seventh novel and what many consider to be his finest. Octavo, bound in original full leather, gilt titles and tooling to the spine, front and rear panels, all edges gilt. Boldly signed by John le Carre. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy garnered instant praise for Le Carre as "[t]he premier spy novelist of his time. Perhaps of all time" (Time). "Le Carre is simply the world's greatest fictional spymaster" (Newsweek). Le Carre s inspiration drew from his experience of the revealing of the Cambridge Five traitors in the 1950s and 60s (Anthony, 2009), and the novel s popularity can be seen in relation to those shocking events. In 2011, the novel was adapted into a successful film, starring Gary Oldman and Colin Firth, and it received three nominations at the 84th Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Actor. This successful production is but one of Le Carre s numerous accolades in espionage fiction. He was awarded both the Helmerich Award and the Goethe Medal, and, in 2008, The Times ranked Le Carré 22nd on its list of "The 50 greatest British writers since 1945.".

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Individual volumes as follows: 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' (1974). First Edition (first printing). This copy signed by the author by way of a title-specific bookplate pasted to the front free endpaper. 8vo. 349pp. Black boards lettered in gold at the spine with a small George Smiley decoration gold-stamped to the upper board. Edges lightly spotted and with a little blemishing to the publisher's top edge stain. A touch of spotting to the margins of three or four preliminary leaves, and just a trace of light toning to the free endpapers. A very good copy in non-price-clipped dust wrapper, lightly and creased at the edges with several tiny tears and slivers of loss, and with the publisher's laminate lifting a fraction in one area. 'The Honourable Schoolboy' (1977). A later state or more probably the export issue of the first edition, without the endpaper maps and with no price printed to the dust wrapper flap. This copy signed by the author by way of a title-specific bookplate pasted to the front free endpaper. 8vo. viii, 532pp. Black boards lettered in gold at the spine. Edges, endpapers and one or two preliminary leaves spotted. Inked and subsequently struck-through date to the head of the front free endpaper. An almost very good copy in slightly faded and edgeworn dust wrapper, with some creasing to the flaps. 'Smiley's People' (1980). First Edition (first printing). This copy signed by the author by way of a title-specific bookplate pasted to the front free endpaper. 8vo. 327pp. Blue boards lettered in gold at the spine. Edges spotted, and with just a tiny trace of further spotting to the endpapers and half-title. Very good indeed in non-price-clipped dust wrapper, a little faded at the spine panel with a touch of very light wear to two or three extremities. A respectable set of Le Carré's celebrated trilogy of George Smiley / Karla novels; a little let down by the central volume being the export edition, and yet the whole considerably enhanced by the three endpaper mounted plates bearing Le Carré's signature. Signed by Author(s).

First British edition of the author's seventh novel and what many consider to be his finest. Octavo, original cloth. Signed by author on the title page, "with best wishes John le Carre" and by the author's father, "and much love from his father Ronnie July 1974." Ronald Cornwell was the father of le Carre and was a known associate of the Kray twins. The family was continually in debt. The fatherâ "son relationship has been described as "difficult". Rick Pym, a scheming con man and the father of A Perfect Spy protagonist Magnus Pym, was based on Ronnie. When his father died in 1975, Cornwell paid for a memorial funeral service but did not attend, a plot point repeated in A Perfect Spy. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. An exceptional example, rare and desirable signed by both son and father, this is the first example we have seen.
